Man Beats Wife For Not Calling Him ‘Sir’

By Ron Estur

Lancaster, PA – Domestic violence is a crime triggered by different reasons and excuses, indeed. A Pennsylvania man was convicted Wednesday for beating his own wife who refused to call him ‘Sir’ in front of the kids.

Dan Kirby Kopp, 49, of Ephrata is facing jail time after being found guilty of beating Mrs. Kopp with a paddle whenever he found her ‘disrespectful’ as a means of disciplining the woman and making her learn her lessons.

According to investigators, Kopp would frequently abuse her wife by taking her over his knee and spank her. At times, he would also warn the woman that ‘he would cast demons out of her’.

In an iPhone video taken by the victim on Sept. 22 , 2012 and shown to the court, Kopp was seen beating the woman with a wooden paddle for not addressing him with ‘yes sir’. Prior to this scene, it also showed Kopp counting up to three for her to comply.

On Oct. 2012, the wife who can longer stand the suffering and humiliation went to the police, complained and sued her abusive husband.

The 6’5”, 230-pound Dan Kopp was convicted by a local jury of misdemeanor stalking and harassment and was sentenced by Lancaster County Judge Dennis Reinaker to serve 1 to 23 months in Lancaster County Prison followed by a year of parole.

He was also ordered by the court to pay $500 and to avoid any contact with his wife. The couple had since been separated, but since they have children who are involved in sports, they are also ordered to sit on opposite stands, or at least 50 yards apart during games.
